Developing Innovative Foods for Elderly Patients with Old-age Health Conditions
EU Food MNC
Frozen Food Manufacturing
The Client, a leading producer of frozen foods in Europe, had several major customers in healthcare and care home markets. The Client’s existing products were popular with their customers in these markets, but some of their customers’ patients suffered from medical conditions—such as dysphagia and other old-age related conditions—that made eating conventionally-prepared meals difficult.
The Client had tried to expand their offerings by re-designing their meals to better serve their customers’ patients based on their internal research. These efforts had produced limited results, as the Client’s team lacked a detailed understanding of the ways that specific ailments caused nutritional and eating difficulties for patients. Additionally, investigating the full range of innovative food processing technologies was a challenging task for their internal R&D team.
The Client asked CamIn for actionable advice on how they could design and produce new types of meals that could better serve patients with specific diseases and nutritional needs.

CamIn brought in seven leading experts—including scientists, food technologists, and clinicians—to work with us on researching and addressing the Client’s specific challenges. First, we worked with the Client to identify the medical conditions that were most important to address in their new offerings, and to understand the Client’s production process so that we could recommend appropriate technological solutions. Next, we investigated existing scientific research on food-related technologies that help patients suffering from the medical conditions identified through our work with the Client.
For each condition, CamIn investigated technologies, including specific ingredients, formulations, and food preparation techniques that could be beneficial for specific types of patients, and considered the readiness of each technology for implementation into the Client’s production processes.
