THE CHALLENGE

Our Client, a Corporate Finance division at one of the Big Four consulting firms, had identified an innovative system for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC). This system had the potential to offer an energy saving, environmentally friendly alternative to existing technologies.

As the Client’s division primarily invested in technologies that were in the later stages of development, they did not have the expertise to perform the necessary technical due diligence on the system’s pre-prototype technology. Additionally, our Client was also new to the HVAC market, and wanted expert advice on the market segments and geographic regions where this system could be most effectively commercialised, and to understand the new system’s strengths and weaknesses compared to existing HVAC solutions.

The client chose to work with CamIn to get expert advice on the potential benefits and risks of this new technology.

THE SOLUTION

CamIn brought four leading experts from science and industry to contribute to our consulting team's analysis. We performed a thorough evaluation the HVAC system’s novel technology, and considered the factors that might create opportunities or risks for the technology developer’s commercialisation plans. We also developed clear criteria on which to benchmark the new system’s performance against competing HVAC solutions.

Our experts drew on their extensive knowledge of the HVAC industry to identify market segments and geographic regions where this new system might be most effectively commercialised. They also worked to find suitable partners who could work with the Client develop this innovative HVAC technology into a commercial product.

THE IMPACT

CamIn’s final report and in-depth workshop session provided the Client with a clear and comprehensive evaluation of the innovative HVAC system’s strengths and weaknesses. CamIn’s team also identified ways that the system could be improved prior to commercialisation, and the most important sectors and geographic regions where this novel HVAC system could succeed commercially. We also found several industry partners who were qualified to assist the Client in the system’s commercialisation. The Client was impressed with the quality of our analysis and the calibre of our experts, and was able to proceed with confidence in the thoroughness of our due diligence.
